BELLEVUE, Neb. – The Warriors found the going tough in their bounce-back effort Saturday afternoon, especially against a Bellevue team riding high on momentum.
The Waldorf volleyball team looked for its first league win after a near-miss Friday night, but the Bruins – who one night earlier topped North Star Athletic Association favorite Viterbo – ended up scoring the 25-15, 25-13, 25-15 win over the Warriors.
Waldorf (1-9 overall, 0-7 NSAA) started the match strong, down just 10-9 after a Kaitlyn Bakke service ace in the opener, and got as close as 15-13 back after a Kenzie Kidd kill.
But the host Bruins (2-1, 2-0) broke free from there, scoring 10 of the next 12 points to grab the lead in the match.
The Warriors tried to battle back in second No. 2, down 5-3 early after another Kenzie Kidd kill, and 7-4 back after a Bellevue service error, but a 6-0 run helped the Bruins take firm control of the second set en route to another win.
The third set saw more of the same as a Charlotte Wright kill put Waldorf in front 3-2 early, but a 9-1 charge by Bellevue broke the contest open and helped the Bruins complete the sweep.
Wright, Abygail Wood and Alisha Schaefer each had four kills apiece to lead the offense for Waldorf, while Bakke dished out 16 assists. Kaylee Kidd made 10 digs and Trinity Perez added nine digs for the Warriors, who wrap up their fall season hosting Faith Baptist Bible on Tuesday at the Hanson Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
