CRETE – Doane Baseball hosted Nebraska Wesleyan for the first time since 2015 and last faced off in 2016. After falling behind early, Doane rallied late to top the Prairie Wolves, 10-9.
- Doane threw nine pitchers in the game and they combined for 10 strikeouts in the game. Jacob Trujillo (SR/San Jose, Calif.) picked up the win (3-2), striking out three of the seven batters he faced. Jordan Ritzdorf (FR/Omaha, Neb.) recorded his first save with two scoreless innings.
- NWU took a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the 5th inning. They plated three runs in the 2nd inning and one in the top of the 5th. Doane cut the deficit to one run, 4-3, behind three runs in the 5th. Blaine Wood (FR/Andover, Kan.) and Kris Jackson (SR/Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had RBI-hits with Wood also scoring on a wild pitch.
- NWU added to their lead with four runs in the 6th. Doane scored a run in the bottom of the inning on a RBI-ground out by Nathan Sliva (JR/Columbus, Neb.).
- The Prairie Wolves took a 9-4 lead as they scored a run in the top of the 7th.
- In the bottom of the 7th, the Tigers strung together six hits that led to six runs as Doane took a 10-9 lead. Jacob Duhey (SR/Mission Viejo, Calif.) had a RBI-single to pull Doane within a run. Duhey stole 2nd base, moved to 3rd on a wild pitch, and scored on a balk to tie the game. Andy Theiler (FR/Arlington, Neb.) gave the Tigers’ their first lead with a RBI-single.
- Trent Jeary (JR/Gretna, Neb.) went 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and a RBI. Doane finished with 14 hits in the game. The Tigers had five players with a multi-hit game.
