GILLETTE, Wyo. – Chadron State College softball won both games of a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheader Friday afternoon at Energy Capital Sports Complex in Gillette, as the Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets hosted away from campus. CSC improved to 10-7 (8-9 RMAC), while BHSU fell to 5-17 (5-9 RMAC).
Both Eagle pitchers scattered four hits over seven innings, with Jessica Jarecki (6-9) winning 3-2 in the early game, and Megan Horn (4-7) closing out the day with 11 strikeouts in a 1-0 shutout.
Ellie Owens and Allie Mason combined for all three CSC runs, in the second, fourth and sixth innings, with a single and a triple. Mason reached on a double in the second, stole third, and came home on a single by Owens. Owens’s triple in the fourth made it 2-0, and a groundout allowed Mason to score the winning run after she reached on fielder’s choices her final two at bats.
A potential rally in the seventh was curbed after Maddie London reached on a hit pitch and Maddi Fidler homered to make it 3-2 Eagles.
In game two, Angelica Maples led the game off with a single, advanced on a wild pitch, and was sac bunted to third by Alyssa Geist, before Bailyn Meek recorded the game’s only RBI on a grounder to second. Horn took over the game in the final five innings, allowing only one hit and striking out seven in that span.
The teams take the field again Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
