LINCOLN – Nebraska Wesleyan University junior twin sisters Elizabeth Jones and Kaylee Jones were both named to the 2017-18 Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division III Women’s Track & Field/ Cross Country team that was announced on Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America. They were both named to the First-Team for women’s track & field.
Elizabeth and Kaylee are repeat CoSIDA Academic All-American® selections as Elizabeth was a Second-Team honoree in 2017 and Kaylee was named to the Third-Team one year ago.
As an institution, Nebraska Wesleyan has produced 173 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans® to rank tied for seventh in the entire nation, regardless of division.
Elizabeth Jones (Jr., Omaha, Neb.) has a 3.92 GPA as an exercise science major. She was a two-time NCAA III National Champion and four-time NCAA III All-American during her junior season. At the NCAA III Indoor meet she was the national runner-up in the 400 meters and ran the anchor leg of the championship 4×400 relay team. She placed third in the 400 outdoors and was the second leg of the championship relay team.
The Millard North HS graduate was named the 2018 Central Region Outdoor Female Athlete of the year. She was a two-time Iowa Conference Champion during the outdoor meet winning the 400 meters and the 4×400 while finishing second in the 200 meters. She picked up two All-IIAC awards during the indoor season. Three times during the year she was the IIAC Track Athlete of the Week. She was a five-time All-Region performer in 2018.
For her career, Jones is a five-time NCAA III National Champion and has earned eight All-American awards. She is a nine-time conference champion and 14-time All-Conference performer in three seasons with the Prairie Wolves.
Kaylee Jones (Jr., Omaha, Neb.) has a 3.92 GPA in exercise science. She was a two-time NCAA III National Champion in the 4×400 relay running the anchor leg at the outdoor championships. Kaylee earned four total All-American awards in 2018, placing fourth in the 400 meters indoors and fifth outdoors.
The Millard North HS graduate was named the Central Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. She was the Iowa Conference champion in the indoor 400 meters and also ran on the indoor IIAC 4×400 title team. She earned a total of four All-Region awards during her junior season, won three IIAC titles and was a five-time All-IIAC performer in 2018.
During her career, Kaylee has won five national championships in the 4×400 relay and is an eight-time NCAA III All-American. She has won six IIAC titles and is a 10-time All-Conference performer with nine All-Region awards. Kaylee has set two NWU school records in her three seasons.
The 17 members of the women’s First-Team Academic All-American team carry an average GPA of 3.91. There was one other IIAC athlete on the First-Team and a total of four IIAC women’s track & field/cross country athletes that were recognized as Academic All-Americans.
This is the fourth straight season that Nebraska Wesleyan women’s track & field/cross country has produced a CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. The program now has a total of 18 Academic All-American awards won by 11 different athletes.
