LINCOLN – Nebraska Wesleyan remained unbeaten in Iowa Conference softball action as the Prairie Wolves swept University of Dubuque 7-1 and 14-2 on Saturday afternoon (April 7) at University Place Park in Lincoln.
The Prairie Wolves are now 4-0 in IIAC play outscoring their two opponents by a combined score of 37-3. NWU is now 17-9 overall, while Dubuque falls to 4-18.
In the opening game, the Prairie Wolves jumped ahead 2-1 after the first inning as they took advantage of a pair of Spartan errors. Kailey Meyer and Jordan Arndt each had hits with Meyer getting an RBI.
NWU broke open the game in the 5th inning as the Prairie Wolves batted around and scored five runs. Arndt hit a 2-run double, Kayla Prai had an RBI single and Maddy Ethen drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
Those were all the runs the Prairie Wolves would need as Kailey Meyer earned her 10th victory on the mound. Meyer struck out six and allowed only six hits in the complete game victory.
Arndt and Destiny Indra both had two hits to lead the Prairie Wolves as they finished with seven hits in the game.
Game two was dominated by the Prairie Wolves as they scored seven runs in the first inning with the first six batters of the game reaching safely. Arndt hit an RBI double and Danelle Snyder had a two run single. Maddy Ethen doubled to left field to drive in Snyder. Later in the inning Indra drove in a run with a hit and Morgan Shipley also had an RBI single.
The domination continued in the 2nd inning as they scored four runs with two coming on an RBI single from Indra. Jade Mendoza also drove in a run on a single.
In the 3rd inning the Prairie Wolves offense continued to roll with three more runs. Snyder had a double and Mendoza hit another RBI single. Nicole Vana also got into the fun with an RBI single.
Jessie Briley was dominant on the mound for the Prairie Wolves as she struck out nine and walked none while allowing just three hits.
Vana and Snyder were both 3-3 at the plate in game two as the Prairie Wolves finished with 15 total hits.
