LINCOLN – Nebraska Wesleyan University men’s basketball coach Dale Wellman picked up two more awards as he was named the Midlands College Men’s Coach of the Year by the Omaha World Herald and the State Colleges Coach of the Year by the Lincoln Journal Star. It is the second time that Wellman has earned the recognition from the Journal Star as he also was named the State Colleges Coach of the Year for the 2015-16 school year.
Both honors come on the heels of the NCAA Division III National Championship run that Wellman led the Prairie Wolves on to cap the 2018 season. The memorable season resulted in numerous accolades for Wellman, who was also named the NABC National Coach of the Year as well as National Coach of Year recognition from D3hoops.com and SNA Sports/DIII News. Wellman was also the All-West Region Coach of the Year and IIAC Coach of the Year for a second straight season.
In four years, Wellman has led the Prairie Wolves to two conference championships, two trips to the national tournament and an 83-32 overall record. This past season, NWU finished with a school record 30 victories posting a 30-3 record on their way to the program’s first National Championship.
