HASTINGS – Coming off yet another successful campaign with another trip to nationals, Head Tennis Coach Comron Yazdgerdi is stepping down. Yazdgerdi has set the bar very high as he led the men’s program to seven regular season Great Plains Athletic Conference titles and eight GPAC tournament titles in his nine seasons.
“On behalf of Hastings College, I thank Coach Yazdgerdi for what he has done for the tennis program both on the court and in the classroom,” said Ron Hergott, Lifetime Sports Director. “He has certainly changed the landscape of the GPAC where over the last nine years, the GPAC title went through Hastings College.”
Under Yazdgerdi’s leadership, the men’s team won seven conference regular season crowns, eight conference tournament titles and eight trips to the NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championships. He coached the GPAC’s only two All-American’s in McKay Inman and Mark Gueswell as well as seven GPAC Player of the Year recipients. He finished with a 53-4 conference record and a 17-3 GPAC tournament record.
Taking over the head coaching position for both the men’s and women’s programs will be Gueswell. Mark graduated in 2017 with a marketing and business administration double major. Mark received all-conference recognitions all four years in both doubles and singles and received back-to-back player of the year awards in 2016 and 2017. Mark participated in the National Tournament every season winning the GPAC Conference Championship four years in a row. Mark was also named Honorable Mention Team All-American in 2017.
